Qwerty Keyboard Phone
How did they fit all those functions inside?

Since Nokia came out with the 6800 last year, messaging has never quite been the same for handphone users. Not having to press three times to get to a particular letter is great once you’ve experienced it. The upgrades of that model are the 6810 and the 6820, one of which is not available here yet. Shall we take a look at what is new this time around?
Family matters
At first glance, I would say that the 6820 is the slightly more ‘feminine’ model in Nokia’s messaging phone range. I think I would prefer the 6810 more, seeing as it resembles the earlier 6800 that I have already become very comfortable with. The 6820 feels slightly different, because the menu key which has been on the left since the earliest models has been replaced by a 5-way joystick by default. Yep, the joystick on the 6820 can be pressed down, unlike the one on the 6800.
The 6820 is the only one of the three to have an integrated camera which also supports video recording. However, the internal memory has dropped from 4 MB in the 6800 to 3.5 MB in the 6820.
Foldable keyboards
The WAP has been improved to version 2.0 (against the 1.2.1 of the 6800), while the browser is now an xHTML one. The EDGE compatibility of the phone means that you nearly triple the 43 kbps of the 6800 to a healthy 118.4 kbps in this phone. This is another feature is dependant on operator services, so let’s not labour the point just yet.
And to confirm the point that this one is the feminine model in the messaging device family, the keys on the keyboard are a lot closer, and really wouldn’t cooperate with my stubby fingers. Exposed contacts wear down eventually, and the best improvement here is the removal of the contact points on the top of the screen. Those contacts swing into action when you unfold the keyboard on the 6800.
The screensaver did not seem to work like the usual Nokia screensavers in this software version. We are not sure if this is intentional, but if it was, it is definitely a good idea. One of the biggest peeves I have is difficulty with the usual screensavers, because the lock status is not displayed on the screensaver, and you are never quite sure, because there is no auto-lock feature on the 6800.
Thankfully, this has been rectified in the 6820.
